With the holiday craziness behind us and an already busy new year ahead of us, a relaxing at-home spa day never sounded so good. Nothing – and I mean nothing – beats at at-home spa day! (Well, perhaps front row tickets to Adele…but that’s about it.) And if the pamper factor isn’t enough, here are five reasons every gal should regularly do at-home spa treatments:
1. You can save loads of money you’d have otherwise spent at an ultra expensive salon (and buy extra beauty goodies, glosses, and glazes! Oh, my!)
2. You won’t have to subject yourself to the poor girl’s Ramen Noodles diet (because you spent a small fortune on that fancy-schmancy spa center)
3. Only spa goodies can make you go aaaaaaaahhhhh (after a #%&@ day)
4. Routine spa-ing will help you stay out of prison (e.g. when your hubby forgets your anniversary and you’re ready to strangle him, an at-home spa “quickie” will bring you back to your senses)
5. Total, utter self-indulgence (need I elaborate on this one?)
So, without further adieu, here are some fabulous at-home spa products that will leave you uber rejuvenated without breaking the beauty bank:
Earth Therapeutics Recover-E Cucumber Eye Pads $7
Kanshi Salted Coconut Body Scrub $19
Repechage Sea Spa Mineral Bath Salt $32.50
Hydra Mar Facial Magic Mud Masque Anti-aging $29.99
Aromafloria Stress Less Bath & Body Oil $16
At-home spa-ing is so the new black. Happy pampering, gals!

Dinner Party Etiquette
By: Etiquette Expert
Joy Weaver
Everyone loves a fabulous dinner party and there are a few key tips that lead to success for any host
or hostess.
Exceptional first impressions are essential for your guests – so remember to indulge all their senses.
Scent – select wonderful candles and spray that smell delicious. Never use scented candles on your
dining table it will compete with the aroma of dinner.
Sight – candles also play a large role in creating the mood of the party. Also displays of beautiful
florals in strategic locations throughout your home is a special touch. Make sure your flowers
are not at a height of distraction on your dining table. If so, your guest will not be able to see over the flowers to carry
on conversation with the guests across the table.
Sound – select the perfect music to accommodate the celebration. Make sure to turn the music to a level that does not
overpower the conversation at the dining table.
For the invited guest:
BE ON TIME! It is a huge faux pas to be late for a dinner party; however, if you have an emergency, call immediately to let
the host/hostess know you will be late.
As soon as you receive the invitation, let the host/hostess know if you are allergic to any foods, pets, or scents.
Bring a host/hostess gift. (Do not bring flowers unless they are in a vase.) This is a small token of appreciation for the time
and effort of hosting the party.
Everyone—turn your cell phone on manner mode. (Must I say this again? . . . Yes, I must!)
Never bring a guest with you without getting prior approval from your host/hostess.
Do not start to eat until everyone has been served and your host or hostess picks up his or her first utensil.
Do not dominate the conversation(s) at the dining table. Allow others to talk, too! Make it a point to talk to the person
on each side of you for the same amount of time.
Compliment the host/hostess on the food. (Don’t go overboard—your compliments will sound insincere!)
Pace yourself—never eat faster or slower than everyone else.
Never eat and run; stay to visit after the meal.
Remember, if you must drink—know your limit on alcohol and do not go over it.
Write a thank-you note to the host/hostess immediately afterwards.
For the host/hostess:
Invite each person at least two weeks in advance—that is, if you want to be considered a good host and hostess.
Meet each guest at the door—the welcome sets the tone for the entire night.
Make proper introductions.
Sit on each end of the table, or across from each other at a round table.
Instruct the guest of honor (should you have one) to sit to your right.
Take into consideration each guest’s personality so the conversations will flow. In other words, do not seat two introverts
side by side, and you should not put two drama queens together.
Also, remember to seat your guests male/female and to seat couples apart.
Place cards are appropriate so your guest knows where to sit, or verbally tell each guest their designated seat.
The host/hostess should remember that he or she is not required to open gifts in the presence of company
(also, you are not required to send a thank-you note for this gift!)
FYI--You know you are not a candidate for “Socialite of the Year” if you have a BYOB dinner party or a potluck dinner!

Sissy's Southern Kitchen & Bar: Come Sit a Spell
Well, fiddle dee dee! I do declare that I have found a new place to sit a spell and sip a mint julep.
Lisa Garza, a former contestant on The Next Food Network Star and owner of Lisa Garza Taste Studio, opened the doors of Sissy's Southern Kitchen & Bar to the public on Monday, February 27th. I got a sneak peek/taste last Thursday at this exciting new dining experience that features authentic Southern cuisine, cocktails and décor at a media luncheon hosted by Garza.
“The concept is inspired by my Southern roots. I was born in Memphis and raised by an old-school Southern daddy,” Garza says. “I have worked in and around the fine dining scene for almost 20 years—Sissy’s will be a slight departure. I want to build a fun place that feels like home in the South with great food, awesome drinks and friendly service.”
Garza hand-selected Chef Jeffery Hobbs, her dear friend and partner at Suze for seven years, to execute her culinary vision. If you only order one thing - you MUST get Sissy’s fried chicken: a choice of white or dark meat prepared in a house-blended brine and soaked in buttermilk. It is so damn good that we were literally fighting for pieces at our media luncheon. And at the grand opening event, Drew Ginsburg ate at least 5 pieces right in front of me and then lamented about how he was going to have to call his trainer first thing the next morning. But, it was so worth it, wasn't it Drew...
At the grand opening on Friday, February 24 I spied Amy Vanderoef and LeeAnne Locken who had skedaddled over from A Night at the Karaoke Lounge benefit for Turtle Creek Recovery Center. DJ Jen Miller and her PR gal pal Bri Crum were caught noshing on squash puppies and deviled eggs and Barney's Jackson was cruisin' the crowd working the room is his usual debonair style. If you wanted to find Lisa Garza... you only had to go as far as the makeshift dance floor where she spent most of the night dancing to the sounds of 70s disco and 80s rock.
Expect other Southern staples like corn fritters with whipped honey butter, whole fried okra, chili fried oysters and rémoulade, shrimp and white cheddar-green onion grits, Low Country gumbo, chicken and waffles topped with black strap molasses, and slow-cooked beef short ribs. The desserts were my least favorite part of the menu. Nothing blew my skirt up. Keep to the apps and entrees and you will not be disappointed. The bar program features old-school Southern cocktails and a vodka “tea bar” that consists of crystal urns filled with signature tea-infused punches.
Sissy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar is located at 2929 North Henderson Avenue and will be open for dinner
Monday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to midnight, and Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling 214.827.9900

Park Place Motors provided the hottest destination stop last Saturday night, hosting the 3d annual Accessible Luxury event benefiting Scottish Rite Hospital. DJ Lucy Wrubel provided the soundtrack for the evening while guests enjoyed everything from fashion to cuisine featuring food from Kent Rathbun, The Grape, La Duni, to jewels courtesy of Eiseman Jewels. Courtney Kerr from Bravo TV's Most Eligible Dallas emceed a spectacular fashion show featuring designs from Oscar de la Renta. There was even a "Man Cave" geared towards the men at the event offering cigars, the Green House food truck, guns and fashion from Beretta.
I sweet-talked Park Place CEO Ken Schnitzer into unlocking a $400,000 McClaren for me to sit in. There's just something about sitting in a car worth as much as a house that make you feel goooood! I also spied Barney's fashion guru Jack Son, Robin McMonigle, Ashley Oliver, artist Seth Simmons and Texas Monthly's LeighAnne Bakunas mixing and mingling.
Last year's event raised over $50K for the cause. Event Co-chairs Heather and Robert Murphy did an outstanding job overseeing this year's swanky soiree giving me every reason to believe that this year's tally will be more. Fingers crossed!
